WHAT TO DO AT GIGLIO

WHAT TO SEE
----------------------------------------------
» Porto S.Stefano.
An old Roman harbour, situated in a very good position which has yielded it subject to various dominations and whose evidence is well seen in its architecture: It’s the most turistic centre of the Argentario and keeps intact its liveliness and its traditions like the characteristic “Palio marinaro”.
» The Island of Giglio.
This suggestive and beautiful island is small but animated. It has a wonderful climate which helps us enjoy the fragrances and natural beauties all the year round. Among the villages, that clearly show us the history and the geography of this island, we find – Giglio Porto inserted between a marvellous sea and a towering mountain at its back and its very small but busy harbour.
– Giglio Castello a charming medieval village surrounded by XII and XIII century walls which are linked to cylindrical and rectangular towers. – Campese a small village which developed, thanks to the iron purite mines and where we can admire a medicean tower of the XIII century, where the inhabitants have answered to the besiege of the tunisians in 1799.

WHAT TO EAT
----------------------------------------------
Fish, the principal dish, gets on very well with the traditional gastronomy of the hinderland.

----------------------------------------------
Red wines: Morellino di Scansano, Monteregio, Montecucco and Parrina.
White Wines: Ansonica della costa dell’Argentario, Parrina, Capalbio and others.
